Animal Rights

Why is it that humans dominate over animals and dictate their lives? If life has inherent value, then animal rights should be part of that consideration. When non-human animals have an interest in preserving and living their own lives free of suffering, how is it that humans feel they have the right to manipulate and exploit animals to serve their own benefit?

What attitudes exist in our society that teach people that animals do not matter as much morally? The basics of animal rights is that animals should be afforded the same consideration as the similar interests of human beings.
